In 1964, I won President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “Essay on the Handicapped.”

My national award winning essay was published in it’s entirety with a photo and my first “By Line” in a major Los Angeles newspaper, the “Valley News” [now the Los Angeles Daily News] newspaper in Los Angeles (Van Nuys), California.
